Have I ever introduced you to Steve? The longest lasting member at The Scotchbrite Mansion. No woman has ever walked past our front doorstep without falling in love with him. Some say he has a gift, the girls across the road say his beard has magic powers, the men beg “teach me HOW!” I say he must have chocolate flavored nipples. He has more women chasing after him than I have taken photos. I’ve mustered up a rough estimate & I have taken roughly thirty thousand photos in my life time. Now that my friend is a whole lot of pussy for one man.
“I DIDN’T SEND YOU THROUGH 5 YEARS OF ARCHITECTURE TO TAKE PHOTOS OF DRUNK GIRLS!!!” My father took this photo of me. This was the day he sat me down and told me he believed in my work. He has been my biggest fan ever since.
Today I quit my job. I want to photograph for me. I'll miss you Melbourne.
Yesterday I decided to move away.
Today I quit my Job.
On February the 1st 2012 the adventure begins. I believe things happen for a reason & this feeling, this moment right now is where it needs to be. I have had one hell of a time with you Melbourne, I am where I wanted to be, but I am afraid it’s not what I want. I miss taking photos for me. I miss waking up and wanting to pull out my camera because the day was so beautiful. I miss wanting to share my moments. I am moving more than 24 hours drive away with nothing more than my camera, a pair of undies and soul. Oh and I’m dragging Tessa with me. HA! I don’t think I’m ready to tell you where I’m headed off to yet. Lets keep that one a surprise. Until then, I’ll post every happy memory I have left in Melbourne.
You made me smile today. A smile that went from ear to ear. A smile that pushed every bicycle rider out of the way. A smile that trailed behind me tapping lonely strangers shoulders. It was a smile for all smiles. It was a smile for you, a smile for her & a smile for them. It was a smile for that little old lady climbing her fig tree. It was a smile for that child chasing the butterfly. It was a smile for my newly sprouting rhubarb. It was a smile for my mother. It doesn’t take much to spread the word. A smile is all it takes. So go and get yourself loved. Smile away.
Strawberry Fields is a loving festival that you can layout a shag pile rug, blow some glitter in the breeze & laze in the sun. You can fall in love with your nearest camper van neighbor or trip over a tent peg & land in a beautiful harem. Some bathe in the swamps, tip toe through smoke filled bubbles or dance bare foot in the mud. It is the perfect place to feel the warm dappled sunlight of crocheted windows on your neck while painting the face of a complete stranger.
